Wild Islands & Philippine Horizons
Rock Islands Palau
4 reasons to choose an Asian cruise
With thousands of islands, spectacular coastlines, rich cultural traditions and remarkable natural landscapes, Asia offers some extraordinary experiences for travellers. From the remote islands of the Philippines to the dramatic scenery of Indonesia and the historic coastal regions of Japan, exploring Asia by sea offers a different perspective on this fascinating part of the world.
For those looking to venture beyond the more familiar destinations, expedition cruising with PONANT opens up opportunities to discover places that are often difficult to reach by conventional travel.
Discover Extraordinary Natural Wonders
Asia is home to some of the world's most remarkable landscapes, from towering limestone cliffs and volcanic islands to tropical rainforests and pristine coral reefs.
The Philippines alone is made up of more than 7,000 islands, each with its own character and natural beauty. Picture secluded beaches, turquoise lagoons, dramatic coastlines and lush tropical vegetation.
Travelling by sea offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate these landscapes from a different perspective, discovering remote stretches of coastline and islands far removed from the usual tourist routes.
Experience Wildlife & Nature Up Close
or nature lovers, an expedition cruise offers opportunities to explore some of Asia's most diverse environments.
The warm tropical waters of the Philippines support an incredible variety of marine life, while its islands are home to unique wildlife, dense forests and rich ecosystems.
From colourful coral reefs and secluded bays to dramatic rock formations and tropical landscapes, there's plenty to discover both above and below the water.
With PONANT's expedition approach, the focus is on experiencing the natural environment, with opportunities for exploration and discovery along the way.
Connect with Local Cultures & Traditions
One of the great pleasures of travelling through Asia is discovering the diversity of its people, cultures and traditions.
Across the Philippine archipelago, centuries of history and a blend of indigenous, Asian and Spanish influences have shaped distinctive communities, cuisines and ways of life.
Exploring smaller islands and coastal communities offers a chance to gain a deeper appreciation of local traditions and the connection between people and their natural surroundings.
It's these experiences, often away from the larger cities and established tourist centres, that can make a journey particularly memorable.
Explore Islands Beyond the Usual Tourist Routes
While Asia's famous cities and holiday destinations have plenty to offer, some of its most fascinating places lie well beyond the traditional travel routes.
An expedition cruise makes it possible to explore multiple islands and remote coastal regions without the challenges of arranging individual flights, ferries and accommodation.
Travelling aboard a smaller expedition vessel also brings opportunities to discover less-visited destinations, with expert guides providing insights into the landscapes, wildlife and cultures encountered along the way.
Discover the Philippines with PONANT
PONANT's Wild Islands & Philippine Horizon expedition offers an opportunity to experience a different side of the Philippines, exploring its remarkable island landscapes, natural beauty and cultural diversity.
For travellers who enjoy discovering places beyond the usual holiday destinations, this is an exciting way to experience the Philippines by sea.

Characterised by its intense volcanic activity, Camiguin Island is one of the most captivating destinations in the Philippines. With its seven volcanoes - more per square kilometre than anywhere else in the country- this beautiful setting features several waterfalls, including Katibawasan Falls, a picturesque 70-metre cascade set within lush woodland. An iconic historic monument, the Old Church Ruins will plunge you into an atmosphere looking back to the past. This place is steeped in history and stands as a reminder of 1871’s volcanic eruptions, which have since made way for abundant vegetation. With its splendid views over coconut plantations and the ocean, the island relies on farming and fishing, thanks to its rich marine life. Accessible by boat from Camiguin, White Island is ideal for relaxing, thanks to its characteristic white sandbar, which is 0.4 miles long.

Capul, an island municipality in the province of Northern Samar, is a true hidden paradise whose coconut palms are visible from the sea as you arrive. Located off the north-west coast of the province, this gem offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The island stands out for its historical significance, its charming simplicity and its unspoilt coastal landscapes. Here you will find Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish Church, an emblematic site dating back to the 1600s, during the Spanish colonial period. Just ten minutes away by habal-habal, a traditional mode of transport, the Capul lighthouse, perched atop a cliff, offers breathtaking panoramic views over the San Bernardino Strait. Designated a provincial historical monument, it guides ships through the strait by emitting a white flash every seven seconds. These landmarks and the friendliness of the locals, who live off fishing and coconut farming, make this a destination well worth exploring.

Sibuyan is the second largest island in the Romblon archipelago and has always been isolated from the other islands in the Philippines, a particularity that is due to its geological history. The island remains very much untouched and wild. It boasts an exceptional ecosystem and is home to several endemic species, which is why it is sometimes dubbed “the Galápagos of Asia”. Dominated by Mount Guiting-Guiting, which rises to an altitude of more than 2,000 metres or 6,750 feet, it will provide a perfect insight into the natural beauty and culture diversity of these parts. Right near Sibuyan, you could get the chance to swim at the beautiful white-sand beaches on the minuscule Cresta de Gallo Island, surrounded by crystal-clear waters.

Behind the hustle and bustle of its port, which connects the island to Batangas, there lies a territory of soothing beauty, in which golden rice paddies and lush nature form an enchanting setting. Only a few minutes away, the atmosphere changes and makes way for an authentic immersion into the heart of the Mangyan community, the guardians of ancestral traditions and fine craftsmanship. With a warm welcome, cultural discoveries and moments of relaxation in an extraordinary natural setting, this port of call invites you to explore an intimate and refined facet of the Philippines, featuring living heritage and the softness of the tropics.

On first sight, the Philippines' capital shows its highly Americanised Asian megalopolis side, with ultramodern skyscrapers set all along the waterfront. But when you stroll through the cobbled streets of the Intramuros district, you'll discover a different side of Manila, one that's full of old-world charm. An enchanted pause in the middle of urban bustle, Rizal Park's 60 hectares of magnificent green parkland is perfect for recharging your batteries.
